I am Latika Karpe. Age 23. Love Dancing & Travelling. A True Mumbaikar. I’m currently working with an NGO as their social media manager. I was practicing veganism from June 2018, when I came across PETA’s video on chicken cruelty. then I completely turned vegan in September 2018. This is the best decision I’ve taken so far and it’s not just for me, it’s for the animals and the environment.

I turned vegan because I realized it makes sense when we think..”put yourself in someone else’s shoes.” That’s what I did, I asked myself can I imagine myself or my loved ones being confined, tortured, starved to death, and then being killed for some taste. And then the answer abruptly came “hell No”.This realization was pretty empowering.

… and then I started my vegan journey

I didn’t even think for a minute if there will be an alternative for milk or chicken.

No joking but first I thought I’m the only vegan in Mumbai. I guess everyone must have felt that. Yes, I was eager to go and tell my friends and family about the concept of veganism. My family was happy with my decision.

My religious family thought that their child is becoming some Saint or buddha when I explained. But, when I introduced the veganism concept at the workplace. I was bullied and mocked by my colleagues.

That’s when I realized, everything is fine with people until and unless it’s doesn’t come to their food. People are so blindfolded with their beliefs what society has taught them. and it will be difficult for them to write off those beliefs.

What we do is we can educate and make them more them. We cannot push our thoughts on anyone. I consider it my job to constantly offer encouragement to people to take another step away from animal products. keeping a positive attitude has always helped me.

I was astonished by the equation of how the food on my platter affected the destruction of our earth and how the future of the earth hangs on the balance of our eating patterns.

All ecological issues are caused by animal agriculture. One of the most fundamental steps we can easily implement to protect the environment is switching to entirely vegan food.

Yes, I’m a full-time vegan activist

Being vegan is a great decision. but after being vegan, talking about veganism and sharing information is the next most important thing we can do as an advocate. Good listelistenerhe key point. I started my activism by urging on-vegan restaurants to offer vegan meals helping vegan and vegan-friendly restaurants thrive.

Kindness is always in season

Going vegan doesn’t have to be difficult. It’s back to the basics. It’s simple. It’s delicious. It’s real.

The most nutritious food around us is vegan khichdi, poha, upma, daal, sabzi, roti, beans. India is a country with vast variety of food products we have different cultures we are famous for different masala and almost everything comes from plants, our daily diet is 70% vegan so flowing veganism in India is easy. after all, food justice is animal/climate justice.

I read in history book of 5th standard, Humans are the most intelligent species on the planet earth. But it would make more sense if society would teach us that Humans are the most vulnerable species on the planet. We humans can feel empathy and love for any living being. We can connect and understand what they feel, what they are trying to tell.
