Lauryn is a Plant-based nutrition certified, MH Therapist, Yoga teacher, a Ⓥ Activist & Creator. To Lauryn, living a vegan life is moral, kind, joyful & delicious. So whenever someone says that I can’t eat something, she corrects them. Being vegan means we consider what our choices mean to others. If the choice causes harm, we just replace it with a cruelty free choice. Meatless Movement recently had the opportunity to chat with her.

Lauryn believes that not only is it cruel, unnecessary & unhealthy to eat animals today, but it’s literally killing our only habitable planet.

She told Meatless Movement that we have literally NO need for any of the nutrients we have been led to believe can be found in dairy since they can all be obtained from plants without harming individuals instead!

Tell us more about yourself, please

My name is Lauryn. I’m from Miami, Fl but I live outside of Kansas City now. I’m married with 2 sons & one day after about a year and a half as a vegetarian, I watched Earthlings & Dominion.

You glow differently when your actions align with your morals to cause no harm! If you know, you know!

My husband came home from work to the news that we would be vegan now at home & what he did on his own was his choice. At the time, his doctor had warned him that he was very likely going to need medications for many preventable & treatable issues like high blood pressure, high cholesterol & diabetes. After being vegan for a while, the health threats are gone, he continues to choose to be vegan (even out of the home without me) & he has loved every single meal we have had!

Vegan food is not gross. Eating animal flesh & bodily secretions is! That is why we have to completely disassociate from who we are eating to make it acceptable!

The biggest challenge I find is that people tend to misunderstand that veganism is not a diet. It’s a way to align my actions every day with my words. I say I don’t want to cause harm, and I really mean that. I didn’t want to teach my kids to be kind, except for the animals I liked the taste of. I think I was so disconnected from the harm I caused, that I didn’t even know it existed.

I am always able to find something to eat at an ethnic restaurant. At this point, I am uncomfortable with eating at the same table as a meat eater. It normalizes the violence & injustice I am fighting against everyday & I don’t want to do that. I also feel like if a friend or family member can’t avoid eating animals to be with me for just one meal, we can just not eat together.

I love to cook & I share my recipes on my social media & blog www.veganyogamomma.com. I am always able to use social media to find local vegan restaurants to try, I love the Happy Cow app for travel, & when in doubt, ethic restaurants usually offer options!

Misconceptions about veganism is that it is forceful

veganyogamomma

What is forceful is what we do to innocent baby animals for a 10 minute taste pleasure sensation. We have so many other options today. We are not living in a survival situation anymore. Consciousness is a choice, but it shouldn’t be. There are so many big issues that could be solved with a vegan world. We are in a current locate crisis and people always talk about how crazy the weather is but never how they can do something about that!

I went ahead and got my plant based nutrition certification to arm myself with plenty of evidence based research to support the safety of this lifestyle change for myself & my family. It is easy for me to educate others now with irrefutable facts & point them in the right direction.

Dairy cows are forcibly impregnated repeatedly & have their babies taken at birth & then killed so their breastmilk can be ours instead. Make the connection!

I find it interesting that we have conditioned a society of people who choose to turn a blind eye to the harm they cause & then think that we are extreme as vegans for taking responsibility for ourselves & our actions & choosing non-violence. I firmly believe that it is not our fault we were raised in this carnistic world, but it is our job to fix it!

None of my food screams, cries or begs for their life. It’s a vibe!

I would just suggest starting with one meal at a time. Take your favorite recipes & veganize them by making simple vegan ingredient swaps! Butter, cheese, milk, cream, ice cream & yogurt for example all have amazing vegan options nowadays so explore what you can find near you & stick to the one you like

Aim to avoid any and all forms of animal exploitation whenever & wherever it is practice & possible for you to do so! That is what veganism is all about. I am pretty sure you will find out that that is a lot!
