When I think Thai, I imagine hospitality, massage and flavourful food. Well if you’re reading this, I think its safe to say this article is not anywhere near massage. Yet it is going to cover the food and hospitality aspects. Let’s dive right in!

It all started a couple of months ago when my colleague recommended me to try Thai Accent at Vivocity. I have walked past this restaurant numerous times considering Vivocity is typically my one stop place for most errands, shopping, movies and meaningful ruminations. However, for varied reasons (thanks Heightened Alert), I only got to dine in at Thai Accent in August.

My first experience at Thai Accent was a solo dine-in. The black seats and wall added a level of elegance to the ambience. The friendly staff brought me a glass of water almost immediately and five stars to attentiveness I must stay. Then comes the menu and there is an entire page dedicated to just vegetarian options. Reading the menu was rather pleasing to the eyes because it is a rare phenomenon in Singapore for Thai restaurants to carry such extensive vegetarian options. I was spoilt for choices.

Having said that, I was clear on my order. You best bet I ordered the one thing I have to get as far as Thai food goes and that is the Green Curry with a side of rice. When the food arrived, it was a giant bowl of curry with generous amounts of vegetables served with 4 roti prata quarters and of course a side of rice because well let’s be honest, Green Curry is best devoured with rice. The curry is certainly spicy and I did reach for tissues a couple of times. I didn’t mind it. The spice was a lovely kick. Despite all the carbs I ordered to the soak curry, there was still leftovers and I requested to take away the extra curry.

In my three visits to Thai Accent over a period of two months, I savoured many dishes. The pineapple fried rice is mild in spice and really good for kids as there is a level of sweetness that comes with the pineapple

The clear base Tom Yum soup is extra-ordinarily spicy. I shared a bowl of soup with my colleague and we were sweating. I certainly recommend having a drink handy to recover from the spice levels of the soup if you decide to order it. I have had tom yum before but by far this was the spiciest.

My first attempt at trying Papaya Salad was here too. This is a cold salad and great option to counter all the spiciness. The salad is crunchy and has a sweet and mildly bitter taste to it. If you’ve had papaya salad, this would not be alien to you. I really love the generous amounts of cashews that was used in the salad. It brought the flavour out and added a level of texture to the dish.

My highly recommended dish to order in addition to the Thai Green Curry is the Vegetarian Stir-Fried Spaghetti with Hot Basil Leaves. I am always attracted to Asian versions of spaghetti so it was a no-brainer to get this dish. The spaghetti was cooked with a variety of veggies and chunks of basil that really brought the flavour together. It was not a soup dish yet I could slurp entire strands of noodles with the aroma of basil really standing out. The spaghetti was simply pleasing to my senses. I would most certainly order it again.

And what’s a Thai dining experience without some dessert? I ordered the red ruby and split it with my friend. It was sweet, cooling and much needed to calm our tummies from the spiciness of some of the dishes we had that evening.

All in all, I have been pleased with every experience I had at Thai Accent. The staff is friendly and attentive. The place has so many vegetarian options. It is a perfect spot for solo outings, date nights, lunches with friends & family outings. Do check it out and let me know what you think!
