Holidays are a precious break from the day-to-day, a chance to slow down, recharge and rebalance. And what better place to seek wellness than the enchanting island of Santorini? Let us introduce you to an eco-conscious way of holidaying and living, starting at MOD Santorini. Meatless Movement recently had the opportunity to chat with the owners Anargyros and Christina.

In this article, Anargyros and Christina explained why it was important to create Mod Santorini, a fully vegan hotel.

Please tell us more about yourselves

Hi we are Anargyros Fousteris and Christina Boutrou from MOD Santorini, the very first Vegan Hotel on the island. Anargyros is local to the island and Christina is Greek Australian, moved to the island in 2019.

Having a vegan hotel is about all aspects, the animals, the food, the environment, to be conscious of every decision we make.

Our name is MOD and our slogan is Made of Dreams. If you google mod it is a mix of traditional and modern to create an eye catching result. This is how we designed mod, minimalistic, traditional and very eye catching. We wanted people to feel comfortable, to fit right at home. We welcome our guests like you would welcome your friends into your home. We are not a 5 star luxury hotel, because the island doesn’t need this, it needed an inviting hotel that people feel safe and happy in. We have created a community space on our roof top terrace that all our guests can enjoy, meet each other and bond.

Mod was once owned and run by Anargyros’s parents Nikos and Maria. We thank them for trusting us to create something the whole family can be proud of. A new generation of hoteliers.

We have guests celebrating 1 year anniversary’s and 40th anniversaries. We have guests who are celebrating 1 year of veganism and 30 years of veganism. All our guests who come to us are thrilled to be celebrating their birthday, milestone or life in a vegan hotel.

There are many common misconceptions surround veganism. What do you eat? It’s like we don’t have food available if it’s not dairy or meat. There is plenty of food, you get to be more creative with recipes.
