Please tell us more about yourself
I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, but have lived in Los Angeles for the last 17 years.
Why Did You Choose a Plant-Based Lifestyle? Tell Us What Motivated You to Become Vegan
I have been vegan for 4.5 years now. I changed my diet and lifestyle after being diagnosed with breast cancer as an otherwise very healthy, active, and normal 32 year old. Getting cancer changed my life in many ways. Throughout my 2 years of treatment I had many sleepless nights where I researched tirelessly “what causes cancer”? I was in for a rude awakening when I learned over and over how our standard American Diet significantly increases our risk of cancer and other disease, specifically diets rich in red and processed meats, and dairy.
How to Overcome Challenges When Eating Out as a Vegan
Whenever I am invited to a restaurant, I always look up the menu beforehand to see if there are any vegan options. If not, there is almost always a way to customize a regular menu item to be vegan. You learn as you go!
Recommending a vegan restaurant is always a great idea 😉
How Does Being Vegan Make You Feel?
I feel very proud of it actually.
While I initially went vegan for health reasons, it has become so much more than that. Changing my diet also led me to learn all about the unbelievable cruelty of the meat and dairy industry, that I had been blindly supporting all these years. I now like to visit animal sanctuaries and spend time apologizing and bonding with the animals i once ate.
I was shocked to learn how much cows and pigs act just like the dogs we have at home in our beds. It has been extremely eye opening for me.
Not to mention, Since going vegan, I feel and look better than ever and I am almost aging backwards …
so that is also a plus 🙂
How can you inspire a non-vegan to experiment with meatless dishes?
I am always getting people who arent vegan to try my vegan food! And guess what? They always love it. 🙂
I find the best way to change someone’s mind about it is to just show them how delicious and enjoyable it really can be.
I am the only vegan in my family (for now!) yet my family members are always willing (and excited!) to try my foods. More times than not, I receive comments that they actually prefer the vegan versions more than the originals. 🙂
What Are Your Top Picks for Vegan Food? Why Do You Recommend Them?
Try the sofritas instead of meat at Chipotle, and the Impossible whopper from Burger King, you won’t be disappointed!
What Are Common Misconceptions About Vegans and Vegetarians, and How Can We Educate Others?
1) That vegans dont get enough protein.
I am easily able to consume the same amount of protein per day as when I ate meat.
2) That soy causes breast cancer.
It’s actually the opposite, it fights it. You know who has the lowest breast cancer rate in the world? Asia, where tofu is a main protein source.
3) That vegans are weak.
I weight train 4x a week and run 3 miles a day. I am stronger and more fit than ever, so time to throw out that excuse too!
Don’t blindly listen to what others say anymore… do your own research and learn for yourself. It’s time to stop following the crowd, they’re lost.
What Are the Best Tips for Someone New to a Vegan Lifestyle?
They say I’ve changed. I say, a lot changed me 🕊️

All you have to do is find meatless swaps for the meat dishes you are currently eating. Like burgers? Swap yours for Impossible, Beyond, or black bean. Hot dogs? Try Field Roast Stadium dogs. Chicken? I love Impossible, morning star, and Not Chickn brands.
Beyond makes amazing meatless meatballs. Tofurkey makes deli cuts for sandwiches. For healthy whole food options, learn how to cook tofu and tempeh. Its delicious! There are soo many options. Find vegan recipe pages online and follow them. Be open minded and try new things. Find what you like! You’re going to be surprised how good it is.
Also, watch the following documentaries on Netflix: The Game Changers, What the Health, Cowspiracy, and Seaspiracy. Its time to open your eyes and your heart… and change your life and health for the better. 🙂
My Dad worked in a slaughterhouse for 40 years. I grew up visiting the kill floor and thinking this was “normal” and just “the way it is”. After 30+ years of consuming meat and dairy, I never in my life imagined I would go vegan. Getting a life threatening illness changed that for me. With all that I have learned, it has become my passion to help and educate others on the dangers of consuming these foods. I’m here to tell you that if I can do it, so can you. The most important choice of our lives is what we put in our bodies everyday. Are you fighting disease, or fueling it? Are you supporting cruelty, or compassion? What kind of person do you really want to be?
I once saw a quote that said “my body is a garden, not a graveyard” and it stuck with me. I couldn’t be more proud of that. I feel more at peace and in tune with myself, nature, and the beauty of the world around me… and I couldn’t be more thankful for my wake up call.
