Jakki is a 58-year-old proud vegan from the South West of the UK. Jakki’s journey to veganism was not an overnight decision; it took her several decades after being a vegetarian in her teens to finally commit to a vegan lifestyle.

However, two life-changing events in 2019 completely shifted her perspective. Firstly, her grandson required life-saving surgery, which made her appreciate the fragility of life. Secondly, a disturbing Instagram post about cow slaughter opened her eyes to the fact that all lives are precious.

This revelation prompted Jakki to switch to a vegan lifestyle overnight. Since then, her journey has been nothing short of transformative, as she’s experienced a profound awakening that has touched every aspect of her life – mind, body, and soul.

Meatless Movement recently had a chance to chat with her.

I am Vegan forever, it’s a lifestyle not just a diet- my only regret being, I never went Vegan 🌱 sooner

Hi I’m Jakki, I’ll be 58 in July 2023; I live in South West Uk.

I’m proudly vegan and have been for over 4 years, after a spell as a vegetarian in my teens it took me decades though; and 2 things to change my life and commit to Veganism.

In 2019 my grandson needed life saving surgery, such a shock for our family; which made me realise how precious life is.

I turned Vegan 💚overnight; I never realised it would be such a pivotal moment in my life

I then saw an Instagram post about cow slaughter! which woke me up to the fact that ALL lives are precious- I went Vegan overnight.

My journey as a Vegan has been life changing, it was an eye opening awakening that shone the light on many areas of my life- mind, body & soul; like nothing else ever had.

I have been a junk food vegan and a raw vegan for a time over the years, now I’ve really taken a look at my eating and removed junk and alcohol completely; more aware of the effects a lot of toxic products have on us today ( Yuka app has been invaluable).

Encouraging others to adopt a vegan diet is a process I believe and everyone has a unique journey, I’m always happy to talk to other Vegans who I occasionally meet ( many more when I attend Vegancampout this year) it can be a challenge at times; more people are accepting Veganism though and becoming interested in leading a real cruelty free life.

I want to be the real me, strong, compassionate, kind & happy; for many many years. I can’t change the fact that I wish I’d gone vegan sooner, I know I’ll be Vegan for life though; because animals are here to live amongst us- and as Vegans we are their voice.

ALL animals are sentient beings …why love some animals and not others ? It’s mad ! Make the connection Be Vegan

EVERY animal deserves a life; they are here with us, not for us. If we choose to listen animals communicate with us… they don’t want to be used, abused, tortured, and murdered; for entertainment, experiments or a 10 minute meal.

Animals DO have a voice …just not a human one we understand, …but why do WE ignore their screams, yelps, howls, moans that show they are obviously in fear or pain?

However meat, fish or dairy is advertised there’s no such thing as a ‘Happy Cow’ who willingly gives milk meant for her calves! Or Free Range chickens that actually don’t get slaughtered. Many images portray a happy, long and healthy life for animals which are misleading at best mostly they seek to conceal the truth. Animals have been tortured, abused and slaughtered for your meal, they don’t happily give up their lives!

If they could speak like a human in ANY language…what would they say to abuse ? torture? slaughter? They would ALWAYS SAY 🛑 STOP ✋! NO ! We are the voice of the animals with no voice and no choice … VEGANS

Vegans unite together and will always speak up for our animals who deserve a life. Animals are here WITH us not FOR us to use, abuse, torture and slaughter!

So many times I’ve heard Vegan diet … if you’re Vegan you’ll know it’s NOT a diet. Diets people try for health benefits, calorie deficits or experimentation. Being Vegan is a whole life choice that centres around the welfare of OUR beautiful animals & includes transformation for your mind, body & soul.

I’ve never been one to fit in, never felt right in social situations; just kind of drifted along. Veganism is the one thing I believe in with my whole being, it fits me; I belong….. I was born to be Vegan and love ALL animals …it just took me a long time to realise.

I know I’ll always stand up and you’ll hear my voice for the animals even if I’m on my own, but together we will make a world for our beautiful animals and give them the life they deserve.
