With a new perspective, she founded Chickpiece to bring together a set of values that embody this all-encompassing lifestyle. Through jewelry, the Chickpiece website, and social media platforms, Carla is raising awareness and advocating for a better world. Each sale supports animal sanctuaries and sustainability projects.

Hi, I’m Carla and I’m the founder of Chickpiece.

Chickpiece is my form of activism. I want to promote and celebrate sustainable, compassionate
lifestyles and to help secure a beautiful and healthy future for my children. For everyone’s children. For
all life on this planet.

I had been interested in nutrition and ‘clean eating’ for a few years and in 2019 I started reading books
on human health & disease. I learnt about inflammation, cholesterol & the effects of certain food on
the human body.

I came to the shocking realisation that contrary to popular belief, the human body does not need animal products to survive, not for protein, not for calcium & not for B12. In fact, animal product consumption is often linked to many of todays number one killer diseases, pandemics & antibiotic resistance. We can get all of our nutrients from plants without any of the dia effects that meat has on our bodies, I was of course totally sold!

Once I had removed all animal products from my plate, it wasn’t long until I was facing up to the realities of the animal agriculture industries hidden secrets and despaired at the harrowing footage of the standard practices around the world happening day in day out.

With a new weaning baby and a young step son to raise and do the right thing by, my entire perspective
and outlook on the world was changing. Almost overnight many aspects of our ‘way of life’ seemed
absurd to me. I had been encouraged from childhood to live by modern societies values, to simply not
question our barbaric food system and somehow pretend that selected animals held no worth and had
no feelings whilst fully accepting that the pet cat, dog, goldfish or hamster had feelings.

I realised that human nature often contradicted our actions and that I had been living with cognitive dissonance, simply turning a blind eye because apparently ‘that’s just how it has always been and I wouldn’t make a difference’.

The truth is that it hasn’t and in the entire history of the world, humans have only been around for a
very small portion of it yet in that time our quest for survival has turned into total control of the world,
our selfish, dominating activities to feed our ever expanding wants and desires have had catastrophic
effects on the natural world with total denial and disregard for the sentience of planet earth’s other
inhabitants.

We are now facing the potential collapse of our ecosystems and threat of extinction if we do not take
action and understand what our personal decisions are demanding and recognise our needs over our
desires. On top of that, the number one and two killers of human beings can be linked to our modern
day lifestyle, from animal product consumption to the ingestion of microplastics in the air & sea and
chemicals all around us constantly.

As the most intelligent, dominant species on earth though, we also have the power to change everything for the better. If each and every one of us takes responsibility for our existence on this earth there will be hope.

I want to be a better person & help create a better world. The effects of our ice caps melting & our
world heating will be devastating and there will likely be mass panic in our children’s and children’s
children’s lifetime.

Likely there will be more and more technological solutions by others which may or may not save our species but I personally felt compelled to act now, to live in a way that causes the least harm to my fellow inhabitants, to the planet and to my family. To change my attitude on how I treat the natural world.

I also desperately wanted help get this information mainstream. Shockingly there are many reasons that
the media pushes some topics over others and much of it involves money & business partnerships.

Things must change we need to be proactive not reactive. That may be too late. I have real belief that humans are good and with awareness will come change and that understanding of the reality of the unnecessary treatment of animals and destructive collision course that our current way of life is leading us on will create a collective desire to turn the tide and repair the mistakes of the past.

Once we really start to consider, question and realise the consequences of the practices that have been ingrained in our culture I believe everyone must surely feel compelled to make different choices. I know that for me, living in any other way is simply not an option anymore.

Chickpiece brings together a set of values that collectively embody this all-encompassing beautiful
lifestyle that will enrich us and all life on our planet. I feel so passionate about banishing these age old
myths & promoting a connection with our own well being, our home and our fellow inhabitants.

When I first became vegan I wanted some special jewellery that represented me, that symbolised the
way that I felt but I could not find anything, so I created Chickpiece. I really hope that you feel
inspired, that you love Chickpiece jewellery and our concepts as much as we have loved creating them
and that you find something here that represents you.

I hope that you will wear your Chickpiece jewellery with pride and feel strength from within in all that you do. I hope that in the face of adversity, they will sparkle, shine and radiate beautiful little messages everywhere and get people thinking, talking & feeling empowered.

Chickpiece enables me to do something that I am passionate about for a living. Through our jewellery, our website & our social media platforms we are raising awareness.

We are out on the road at events talking about these subjects at our Chickpiece pop up shops and each and every sale helps look after the wonderful animals at Surge Sanctuary & enables us to plant trees & fund sustainability projects with our partners Ecologi.
