Tell us more about yourself
Hi I’m Puja from Southern California.
I was brought up vegetarian, but I evolved to becoming a vegan at the start of 2020 after becoming a mother. I found breastfeeding to be one the most challenging experiences. It led me to empathize with other species who are going through similar challenges without any choices and all for our indulgences.
Before becoming vegan, I was most worried about how I would give up cheese. So I have myself just a month to try, and never looked back because I discovered several satisfying alternatives to dairy. That one month plan turned out to be a lifetime plan.
I always try to research restaurant menus before going. If there are no options, then I even call and ask if they can modify some of their dishes to be vegan friendly. It’s never usually an issue in my area. However, if I know there will not be accommodations, then I try to always eat before going.
What are some misconceptions about a vegan or vegetarian?
One misconception that I hear all the time is how to get your protein by being vegan. – Eating a healthy wholefoods plant-based diet is the best thing you can do for your health. There is enough protein in plant-based food plus it’s easier to digest vs animal products. Human digestion was never meant for animal products.
How would you tell someone who’s not yet vegan/vegetarian to try meatless food?
I recommend they do their research first. They should be mentally ready and prepared to put their thoughts into perspective. There are some great documentaries to start with on Netflix.
Try amazing vegan food recipes, restaurants and most importantly learn how it’s a healthier option for you; do your research.
