Please tell us more about yourself
Hi, everyone. My name is Beata, though somehow everyone calls me Betty or Bea. I was born and raised in Poland but then at 21 I moved to Israel. Sunny place was always my dream.
Just as many of you, I was also looking for information that would help me improve my health.
As a little girl, I had skin problems. I was 13-14 when I was diagnosed with Psoriasis. I remember when I got home from a dermatologist, I started crying because I was not even a grown woman, and I didn’t want to accept my image, my skin, my body.
The doctor prescribed steroids, creams, mixtures, oils, and it was very humiliating for me when I had to apply oils on my head, and my hair was greasy for a long time. My skin had lobes and lesions. I couldn’t imagine that this would be my life at such a young age, already with so many complexities. And so for over ten years, I used steroids on my body, including my face.
In 2012, I often got sick, had infections, nervousness and felt drowsy, and felt temperature and mood swings. My sister, a dietitian, suggested that I take care of myself, put away some animal products, and watch my body. Maybe I would notice a difference and feel better. I introduced dietary changes, discontinued animal products, and frankly, it was not bothersome at all. I felt better, but I still didn’t notice a significant improvement in my well-being. At that time, I decided to do check-ups and make sure Everything was ok. A blood test showed a big thyroid problem, and I got diagnosed with Hashimoto’s disease.
There was a reason why I felt terrible. That’s where all my symptoms came from: infections, poor skin condition, painful periods, and a constant feeling of drowsiness, which was the hardest and most annoying thing that I tried in different ways to overcome. Still, none of them positively influenced me or brought any change. I was very disappointed because I had changed my diet and still I couldn’t do anything more. Despite my active lifestyle and a very traditional, quite healthy, varied diet, I struggled with restless legs syndrome, psoriasis, and the problem of an uncontrolled thyroid in the form of
Hashimoto’s disease from a very young age. All this harmed my mood, energy level, and caused persistent respiratory infections. Endocrinologist offered hormonal drugs, but I did NOT decide to take them. I came back home and started looking …
I looked for information on alternative medicine, holistic medicine, acupuncture. I came across a woman on the Internet by chance who ate only fruit and vegetables, drank rainwater, and prepared beautiful colorful fruit juices. She was 70 years old and looked better than the average 40-year-old woman, unlike her husband, whom people mistook to be her father.
I was shocked. I began to inquire, and to research passionately, as if an inner voice had told me – You are getting closer. As if it were some secret that I had to know, and then I discovered the lost piece of my puzzle.
I found information about the plant diet, the raw diet, and was shocked. How was it possible that until then I hadn’t known anything about it? How was it possible that a diet with such healing capabilities had remained so unknown to me for so long? Without thinking, from day to day, I tried to get closer to the pattern that that woman followed.
I based my diet, just like hers, on fresh fruit and vegetables. I couldn’t believe it: I did not understand how wonderful I began to feel after a few days. My skin! My mood! I woke up at 6 am rested and just put on my sports shoes and ran 6 – 8 km without any prior preparation.
The level of energy and improvement of well-being was so amazing that this diet was more than just a diet: it rapidly became a lifestyle. I was shocked. I continued this diet and saw more and more positives.
After a few months, I did my blood test again and couldn’t believe it.
My thyroid gland was wholly regulated.
The indicator was neither too high nor too low. The level of antibodies was also correct, and I not only normalized my thyroid work but also gained a better mood, energy, and a delicious diet.
Also, despite the opinions of gynecologists who claimed that with such a diet, I would never get pregnant, both with the first and second pregnancy, I did not have the slightest problem with fertilization.
Today, after twelve years, my thyroid is still balanced, I have not had psoriasis for a long time, I am a mother, and I feel great. What’s most surprising is that with the implementation of the same steps and strategies in my clients’ lives, results and improvement were equally fast and spectacular.
I have been vegan for 12 years so there were probably many stories I don’t already remember, but I remember that one time I went to Prague in a raw vegan restaurant and they had many incredible dishes like raw vegan scrambled eggs, sausages etc. but they did not have any salad. So I asked the menager to make a salad for me- I mixed my favorite veggies and people looked at it and wanted to order the exact salad I had created. So they joked they will put this dish on their menu:) few months later they told me they added a salat to their menu.
I think Education is the key. If you know why you don’t want to eat certain products you simply won’t reach out for them. So if you know how harmful meat is you wont reach out for it even when you are out with friends or lacking options when traveling.
How might you encourage someone who hasn’t embraced a vegan or vegetarian lifestyle to give plant-based meals a try?
First I really encourage people to reach out to me if they want to transition or want to try meatless food because many people make mistakes in the beginning and get discouraged. That would be a shame. As a dietitian and personal coach I help people not only transition to the plant based diet but I also help them to balance their hormones, skin and lose weight naturally with a plant based diet.
I really believe there are many misconceptions and I always try to make sure to explain with love and kindness. Many people don’t know the deep truth and fall into stereotypes about a vegan diet. Proteins are everywhere. Literally in every food you eat.
Track your calories in the chronometer app to make sure you eat enough calories As a dietitian I recommend above 2200+kcal for an adult.
I am very glad for getting inspired to turn vegan before I gave birth to my 2 boys- vegan since birth. I am happy to grow young humans and give them the ability to grow strong and consciously. Even if You did not grow as a vegan it is never too late but I ask you to spend some time and educate yourself on this topic to not make mistakes and enjoy the plant based diet to the maximum and enjoy meatless meals.
