As a self-taught vegan recipe developer, content creator, and food photographer, Jacqui’s mission is to simplify the vegan lifestyle and prove that going plant-based can be a breeze.

Jacqui’s journey towards veganism began at the tender age of 14. It was a pivotal moment triggered by a heart-wrenching scene on television—a chicken being butchered. Overwhelmed with empathy, Jacqui found herself questioning the incongruity between her tears for the animal on screen and her own consumption habits. With unwavering conviction, she made the decision to turn vegetarian, much to the surprise of her family, who had never contemplated their meat-centric meals before.

Meatless Movement had the opportunity to chat with her recently.

Jacqui’s approach to veganism is refreshingly practical, focusing on making the transition as effortless as possible. With her ingenious tips and innovative recipes, she seeks to debunk the myth that plant-based eating requires sacrificing the flavors and dishes we love. From mouthwatering main courses to heavenly desserts, Jacqui’s creations captivate the taste buds and leave even the most ardent skeptics craving more.

Join Jacqui on her mission to revolutionize the way we view veganism, one delicious recipe at a time. The Simple Sprinkle awaits, ready to inspire and empower you to embrace a plant-based lifestyle with joy and flavor.

How could I cry over the chicken on TV and then eat one for my next meal?

Jacqui Wormington 🌱

Hi! My name is Jacqui, and I am the writer, photographer, recipe creator, and founder of the vegan food blog “The Simple Sprinkle”. I grew up in Germany and in 2019, I moved to the United States to live with my husband. I have a deep passion for animals, traveling, nature, cooking, baking, and photography. Some of my other hobbies include crocheting, lap swimming, and reading.

At the age of 14, I made the decision to become a vegetarian after witnessing the butchering of a chicken on TV. The experience deeply affected me, and I questioned the ethical inconsistency of crying over an animal’s suffering while consuming them as food. After many years of being a flexitarian, concerns for animal welfare, the environment, and personal health eventually led me to adopt a fully vegan lifestyle. I have been living as a vegan for many years now.

I grew up in a family where eating animal products was never really questioned, so everyone was a bit surprised about my decision to keep the animals from my plate

One of the most significant challenges I faced as a vegetarian and later as a vegan was feeling like I was missing out on traditional foods and during social events and holidays. To overcome this, I dedicated myself to making veganism accessible! I love recreating classic homemade dishes and childhood favorites in a vegan version. I believe that turning vegetarian or vegan should not prevent you from enjoying familiar and beloved meals.

Veganism is more than just a diet – it’s a whole lifestyle!

Finding suitable vegan/vegetarian options while eating out or attending social gatherings can be a challenge, especially when others may not fully understand or cater to those dietary choices. To overcome this, I proactively communicate my dietary preferences to friends and family in advance, offer to bring a dish to share that aligns with my diet, eat beforehand, or research and suggest vegan-friendly restaurants or eateries that everyone can enjoy. Nowadays, I try to focus on the positives, lead by a good example, and just have fun!

Inspiring Non-Vegans to Explore the World of Meatless Delights

I suggest approaching it with an open mind and a spirit of adventure. Trying meatless food doesn’t mean giving up taste or satisfaction. I recommend highlighting the delicious and diverse range of plant-based options available, sharing personal experiences and positive impacts of a plant-based diet, and inviting them to join in trying new recipes or dining at vegan/vegetarian-friendly restaurants to experience the flavors and benefits for themselves. You don’t have to go vegan overnight, in fact, I didn’t either. It took many years for me to become fully vegan. I genuinely believe even one conscious vegan meal per week makes a difference!

Therefore in 2020, I decided to start sharing my vegan recipes, knowledge, and experience with you through The Simple Sprinkle!

I love all recipes on my food blog The Simple Sprinkle, but if I had to pick just one it would be my roasted red pepper sauce recipe. It is easy to make, perfect for meal prep, and so delicious and versatile! If you are in the Salt Lake area in Utah, I highly recommend Yumz a vegan Mexican restaurant and bakery, and Sweet Hazel & Co a vegan bistro and bakery that has the most amazing vegan candy bars!

One common misconception is that a vegan diet lacks essential nutrients. I explain that a well-planned vegan/vegetarian diet can provide all the necessary nutrients, including protein, iron, calcium, and vitamins. I emphasize the importance of variety, balanced meals, and proper supplementation if needed. Another misconception is that vegan and vegetarian food is bland or boring. I educate by showcasing the wide array of flavors, spices, and culinary techniques used in plant-based cooking through my socials and blog. I share vibrant and delicious recipes that are both healthy and indulgent to highlight the creativity and versatility of vegan cuisine.

If you are a beginner, my advice would be to start gradually and explore new plant-based foods and recipes. Begin by incorporating more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, and plant-based proteins into your meals. Experiment with different cooking methods, spices, and flavors to make your meals enjoyable and satisfying. Don’t be too hard on yourself if you make mistakes or have occasional slip-ups. Every step towards a more plant-based lifestyle counts! If you need more assistance I have a vegan beginner guide you can sign up for for free.
