Heidi and Andy are a vibrant, animal-loving couple in their 50s, united by their shared commitment to veganism. Their journey together began in February 22 when they discovered their mutual dedication to the vegan lifestyle. As they got to know each other better, they realized how deeply their values and morals aligned.
Both are tireless advocates for veganism, using social media, branded clothing, and volunteer surprises to promote the cause. They actively engage in activism events and use the “happy cow” app to explore vegan eateries.
Their love for food has led them to discover and support vegan businesses, with favorites like Figaro’s in Wingerworth (Chesterfield) and Cafe Roya in Nottingham. Beyond food, they share a commitment to fitness and the welfare of their beloved pets.
Veganism is not just a lifestyle for them; it’s the driving force behind their connection and their shared mission to spread awareness and compassion for animals.
Please tell us more about yourselves
We are a fun loving vegan (for the animals) couple in our 50,s. We were both already vegan when we met in February 22.
The more we got to know about one another , the more we discovered how compatible we are and how our morals aligned.
We both like to promote veganism wherever possible and in many different forms ie social media, branded clothing (Andy’s been known as ‘that Vegan’ at his gym for years!).
Heidi will take in vegan treats for her volunteers at the charity shop she manages for them to try. (Vegan snickers are always a big hit!). We have attended activism events together and this is something we plan to do more of.
We both enjoy keeping fit and when we have time away from work, visiting new places. We often refer to the ‘happy cow’ app to find vegan eateries whether home or abroad.
Our love for food has meant that we have tried lots of vegan eateries since being together. We have a few favourite local ish restaurants that we would recommend a visit.
Figaro’s in wingerworth (chesterfield) is 100% vegan which is important to us as we always try to support vegan businesses wherever possible. They vary their menu and serve anything from Sunday roasts, breakfasts, world cuisine and delicious desserts.
We had our first date at Cafe Roya in Nottingham, so this restaurant will always have a special place in our hearts. Often changing menu’s they offer a great selection of vegan dishes so no two visits are ever the same.
Heidi…
When myself and Andy first met we would spend hours just talking about veganism. It was so refreshing connecting to someone that had the same compassion towards animals
I am the main cook in the relationship as it’s something I love to do.
‘I usually throw a dish together but every so often will choose a recipe from one of our vegan cookbooks (we have quite a lot of these!).
During the week I tend to keep it quick, healthy and easy as I work long hours, so something like a stir fry or a salad. Then weekends if we are eating at home we will be a bit more adventurous.
I love to do yoga and practice most days.
I used to organise activism events with my son Ross ‘Cube of Truth’ at Derby and Nottingham and met lots of local vegans this way.
Andy…
Andy is in great shape and he takes fitness pretty seriously and does 9 gym sessions consisting of running and weights, a swim and a yoga class every week.
‘During the week I never snack but weekends I do allow myself treats’
Andy rescued an Alaskan Malamute, Amy, 7 years ago and dedicates a lot of his time to her wellbeing. Big dog means long walks! Andy has slowly integrated Amy into Heidi’s household with 2 shorkies. (Big size discrepancy).
Being Vegan is very much the focal point of our lives and is what allowed us to find each other. We will never stop talking out about animal cruelty and will continue to spread the vegan message going forward.
