Please tell us more about yourself
Hello! I’m Hannah, I am from the UK, not far from Manchester!
I turned vegan after seeing a slaughterhouse video shared online, I’m pretty sure it was from James Aspey. I didn’t want my hard earned money paying for that torture and I felt like a hypocrite being an animal lover but eating them at the same time. I finally made the connection. I’ve been vegan for 8/9 years now!
So at the beginning I hardly ever went out for food with friends or family because I would end up sitting there with just some chips! The options were so bad but fast forward now its amazing. It still has a long way to go as sometimes i can still find myself with no options but most places now are super accommodating.
How Does Being Vegan or Vegetarian Make You Feel?
Honestly, it’s one of the best things I ever did, I know this is super cliche as this is what most of us say. Sometimes it can be hard with having an online presence but honestly I have just come back from vegan camp out and met so many amazing people. It’s wonderful being around people who think the same as you and are just so kind!
What Are the Best Ways to Encourage Non-Vegans to Try Plant-Based Foods?
Given that the industry has come so far now, it’s not all cardboard anymore most of it is amazing! I’d always give my recommendations on the best alternatives for people.
What Are the Best Places to Eat or Home-Cooked Vegan Meals You Recommend, and Why Are They Your Favorites?
okay so anyone who knows me knows i LOVE firecracker tofu, i have the recipe on my socials if you want to check it out! one week i had it every other night my favourite restaurant to go to is wagamamas, i always have their vegatsu.
What Are Common Misconceptions About Being Vegan, and How Can You Educate Others?
That we’re all crazy pushy people. i never push my thoughts and opinions onto others. There’s extremists in every belief, we’re not all like that.
What Advice Do You Have for Someone New to a Meatless Diet?
Don’t put too much pressure on yourself or over complicate things, start off easy and small changes slowly. You can easily now substitute your favourite meals at home!
What Are your Most Interesting Stories About the Vegan Lifestyle?
Not so much interesting but i would say becoming connected and aware of what’s going on does make you a more sensitive person and i used to think it was a weakness but it’s such a strength. some people are so close minded and can’t see that all these sentient beings are here with us, not for us. we’re all just trying to live our life so if you see something or someone who needs a little helping hand, you’ll feel amazing after. that’s kinda how being vegan is, knowing i’m not contributing to any pain or suffering i’m helping. whenever i see a little bee who needs a pick me up or an injured bird on the side of the road, it costs nothing to just pull over and help them to safety. the world always needs more kindness, be that today.
