Please tell us more about yourself
I am Sophie, I’m a university student in Newcastle.
I watched a documentary in 2019 on netflix called “what the health”, and straight after i watched “cowspiracy” and since then i vowed to never eat animal products. I already had cut out dairy for about a year, so the transition really wasn’t too difficult, but i was super excited and have never looked back since!
Is it true that vegans are healthier?
I love being vegan – I no longer feel grossed out by certain foods or feel guilty for eating a corpse in effect, and because I am eating more plants and fruits, I feel like meals are more satiating and tasty.
I’ve managed to help my parents enjoy more vegan food by cooking them traditional meals with vegan substitutes, thus showing them how easy it is to make swaps and how its still tasty.
One major misconception is that vegans are healthier than meat eaters which is absolutely not true. I see a lot of the time vegans being slated for eating unhealthy or fast foods, when in reality veganism isn’t about health it is about the consumption of animals.
I started an IG account to share some good vegan eats and how to incorporate more plants into day to day meals. excited to see where it leads me!
My favourite foods are buddha bowls, salads or pasta dishes as they are so tasty and also nourishing. I love to make them as beautiful as possible as I am a huge believer in half the enjoyment of the dish coming from presentation.
How to Ease Into Meatless Eating?
Honestly, i’ve always been someone who googles the menu days before I go out so I can plan exactly what i eat, therefore its never been too tricky to ensure I have a sufficient meal. However I have found that quite a lot of the time my options are restricted to the only vegan choice being a burger, which gets old very fast. Would love to see some more options available.
Please do not feel shame for struggling to transition. It is a huge change in your life and there are bound to be moments in which you struggle or even have to go back to consume. Don’t beat yourself up and make sure you put yourself and your needs first. Remember just reducing your intake is great and more than enough!
