Five years ago, KJ embarked on a transformative journey towards veganism, driven by a desire for a greater mission in their healthy eating lifestyle. Having resided in Maryland for 12 years before making Philadelphia home, KJ’s commitment to a plant-based lifestyle has not only proven beneficial for personal health but has also become a source of inspiration for their followers.

KJ actively addresses common misconceptions about veganism, particularly the stereotypes that associate it solely with salads or protein deficiency. By sharing recipes, insights into their journey, and recommendations for vegan-friendly stores, KJ educates and encourages others to embrace a plant-based lifestyle. Colleagues at work have become fans of KJ’s cooking, illustrating the appeal of meatless options even to non-vegans.

Tell us more about yourself, please

I am originally from Aliquippa PA (15001). I currently live in Philadelphia PA. I lived in Maryland for 12 years before moving to Philly.

I decided that I wanted to be vegan for everything and made that decision 5 years ago. I was already on a healthy eating journey but needing a much greater mission.

My iron levels with blood donations is better than when I was a non-vegan. I keep a healthy weight maintenance.

There are no challenges in finding vegan food. I find it much cheaper to be vegan than most people think. I meal prep and prepare all my food. I use to grow mushrooms. I live near many stores that buy from local farms. There are fresh fruit and vegetables.

I have visited alot of vegan joints. The one place I would recommend is Oliver Twist in Glassboro, New Jersey. I recommend mushrooms or tofu as my favorite foods to make. Both have a great texture for make any meatless dish.

I absolutely love being vegan as you clearly see on my social media account. My coworkers dig my cooking which is a plus. They are always open to trying meatless foods that I make from home.

The misconception about a vegan or being vegan is that we only eat salads or that we don’t get enough protein. I educate people on how my journey Egan and how it’s going. I educate people by giving them recipes and posting on my social media accounts. I shop at many different stores in the area. I can tell where to buy alot items. I explain that anything can be veganize.
