Stefanie is a pianist and musician of exceptional talent. She embarked on her musical journey at the tender age of five. Her dedication to the art of classical piano led her to the prestigious Mannes Conservatory of Music in the bustling heart of New York City.

Beyond the keys, Stefanie is deeply committed to her vegan lifestyle. Her transformation into a vegan, driven by a profound empathy for animals, was catalyzed by a powerful music video and lyrics that awakened her to the depth of animal suffering associated with the consumption of meat. Since then, Stefanie has been a dedicated vegan, advocating for the well-being of all living creatures.

Her passion for veganism extends beyond her personal choices. Stefanie actively shares her experiences and knowledge to inspire others to embrace a cruelty-free lifestyle. In her journey, she has become an influential voice in the vegan community, promoting ethical living and compassion for all beings.

Stefanie’s life is a harmonious blend of musical talent and a steadfast commitment to ethical living, making her a remarkable advocate who continues to inspire others to make compassionate choices in their own lives.

Tell us more about yourself, please

I’m originally from Philadelphia. I studied classical piano at a conservatory in New York City and am now a piano instructor in Philadelphia. My passion is combining my love of punk, hardcore, and classical to make these genres more accessible to all.

I have been vegan for about 3 years now. My long time friend Adam (co-host of The Kill Your Radio Podcast) sent me the music video for “Detach” by the vegan hardcore band Vanguard. A visual glimpse of animal suffering along with the lyrics “A blind eye and apathy make a poor epitaph for a living, breathing, thinking creature who died on your behalf” really hit hard. I always felt kind of weird about eating meat since I was a child but yet had not fully connected the depth of animal suffering that goes with it. I have been vegan (for the animals) ever since.

There are lots of great vegan restaurants in Philadelphia. Monster Vegan (a horror themed vegan restaurant!), Tomo, and Fitz On 4th are a few of my favorites.

I am proud to be a straight edge vegan because I am living a lifestyle that completely aligns with my values. Being vegan means demonstrating compassion and respect for all sentient beings and every single person making this decision is a step in the right direction and a positive influence to others.

I don’t often find huge challenges with eating out with friends or finding vegan food. I am okay with eating just a salad or whatever is on the menu to do my part in preventing animal cruelty. But generally I find that there are many options available at most restaurants.

To someone who is just beginning to go meatless, my advice would be to find inspiration through music, recipes, videos. Do the research to find a balanced plant-based diet that works for you and always keep the animals in mind.
