In a world where kindness and love shape the pursuit of true wealth, Elex emerges as a passionate advocate for a lifestyle guided by compassion and justice.
Beyond being a mere choice or personal decision, Elex views veganism as a profound commitment to justice and respect for all sentient beings.
For Elex, every morning is an opportunity to minimize harm, a dedication that extends beyond personal choices to a dream of a world where animals are free from exploitation and torture, their lives valued as much as our own.
In the wake of 2023, armed with a wealth of alternatives, scientific insights, and a deep awareness of the cruelty within the meat, dairy, and egg industries, Elex poses a thought-provoking question to the world: “The question is not why I am vegan, but rather, why aren’t you yet?”
Tell us more about yourself, please
I am from Colombia; I grew up in poverty and violence. I am an attempted murder survivor, but I found my way to get better in every aspect. I think that is why it was so easy to become vegan, because I know exactly how animals feel and the fear and pain they experience. I am an industrial designer, photographer, actor, and director.
I have been vegan for 10 years, I started on January 2013. I turned vegan because a guy at school came to give a speech showing everything that
happens in the meat, egg, milk, skin industry, I came out of that theatre vegan, and no turning back.
It was hard I had to learn many things while studying, not support or encouragement from anybody, plus in Colombia at the time didn’t have many products, I didn’t know anything about nutrition, but I did my research online Gary Yourofsky gave me a lot of insight. But now I can say I am an expert in every aspect.
Nowdays it’s very easy as there are plenty restaurants and I travel a lot to dierent countries, but sometimes people doesn’t really know what vegan is, and they give you food with animal products, some places don’t take it serious like you are just picky.
I also don’t like to share a table with people eating animals, because I’m not ok with that, so it’s a little difficult to get social if other people don’t want to eat at a vegan place.
I feel like I am doing the right thing, this is the bare minimal every human should do nowadays, physically I feel great, I do calisthenics and boxing every day 2 hours.
What strategies would you recommend to encourage individuals who haven’t adopted a vegan lifestyle to explore plant-based alternatives?
I am a very good cook, so I had cooked for friends just to give a perspective of yumii vegan food, but also if I know a good spot I would make a
plan to go to that place.
Most of the time I cook at home just because it’s often more delicious and healthier, I like to eat very clean as I use almost not oil or proceed foods, a lot of homemade protein, beans, veggies, fruits, nuts
What are some misconceptions about a vegan or vegetarian? How do you explain or educate?
Misconceptions generally are that vegans are weak or skinny, I was skinnier when I was a meat eater, and I dedicated myself to be the best example as a strategy for people to become vegan.
To someone who’s just beginning to go meatless, what is your advice?
Don’t quit, find a nutritionist ́ ́a good one ́ ́, get in check all your macros, your minerals, vitamins and stay hydrated, watch documentaries like: Cowspira-cy, what the health, Seaspiracy, blacksh, the game changers, eating animals, Milked, eating out way to extinction, fork over knives, Earthlings, Dominion. Etc… I believe most humans are good, but they are just ignorant of the truth.
It is time to stop being selfish and just thinking about our own benefit; it is not fair to cause unnecessary sufering to animals , it is not right to take their lives for less than 10 minutes of sensorial pleasure.
“Animals have done us no harm and they have no power of resistance. Cruelty to animals is as if man did not love God. There is something so very dreadful, so Satanic, in tormenting those who have never harmed us, who cannot defend themselves, who are utterly in our power.”
