Raised vegetarian, Krishna’s path to veganism was ignited later in life as she delved into environmental law and participated in climate change programs. It was through these experiences that the ecological and political foundations of veganism began to resonate with her.

However, it wasn’t until Krishna immersed herself in yoga and its teachings about the mind and body, particularly the ethical principles known as Yamas, that she fully embraced the ethical, moral, and wellness aspects of veganism. Recognizing the profound impact it could have on her life, as a yoga instructor, wife, and mother, Krishna made the conscious decision to adopt a vegan lifestyle.

Since then, veganism has not only transformed Krishna’s personal well-being but has also shaped her outlook on life and her roles within her community. Join us as we explore Krishna’s inspiring journey into veganism and how it has enriched her life in ways she never imagined.

Meatless Movement recently had a chat with her.

I am Krishna, Born in Bolivia, South America, grew up in California, United States, and currently living in Bolivia, I was so fortunate to grow up Vegetarian household, and then latter in life started considering becoming Vegan, although it took some time to take the decision, But when I finally went for it there was no turning back.

I was vegetarian since the womb, a little over 36 years and vegan for over a year now.

I became a Vegan in a point of my life that I had been doing a lot of yoga, and stared thinking about the consequences of my actions, I have also been working with Climate Change Programs, and the more I read and thought about it I just knew I had to be Vegan and adapt a vegan lifestyle, which is so much more that just what you eat.

I thought I was going to try it out for a month or so and it’s been more that a year and I honestly could not change this lifestyle

Where I live many people have never herd of veganism and don’t understand it at all, it is very challenging, I have to constantly explain what it is and what I can eat, and many time also get into why I am vegan, but being a vegetarian for so many years has trained me well.

How do you feel about being a vegan?

KRISHNA

I’ve never felt better, I finished 75 hard, which is a mental toughness  challenge, it consists in 5 basic rules, follow a diet, I did intermittent fasting vegan, of course, drink a gallon of water a day, two 45 minute workouts, one must be out doors, read 10 pages of a non fiction book and a progress picture each day.

I think that being vegan gave me the energy and head space I needed to be able to do this.

How might you encourage someone who hasn’t embraced a vegan diet to give meatless options a try?

Krishna

I usually cook or bake some thing really good, and don’t say its vegan until they have tried it.

I would go with naturally vegan foods: Hummus, pasta, tabule, salads, Pad Thai, spring rolls, tofu curry, etc.

What are some misunderstandings surrounding vegans?

We only eat lettuce and tomato, so I explain that we actually eat everything, carbs, grains, fruits, vegetables and all the protein that doesn’t come from Animals. Also vegans don’t get enough protein, and I am pretty sure I get a lot more protein with less calories and cholesterol than meat eaters

Try to be open to trying new things, there are so many options and alternatives for vegans

I didn’t become vegan because of fitness, but my body has changed, I have lost weight and I am a lot fitter than before and also feel better in general.

Veganism is a lifestyle, it’s what we eat,  what clothes we were and products we use, it’s about taking care of the planet we live on, and not causing any harm.
