I’m originally from Germany, I left home about 14 years ago to travel the world, eventually based myself in Australia and never looked back. I’m not done travelling yet, I want to live in Bali for a while and also in Dubai…
I’ve been vegan for 9 years, it never felt right what I was doing before, I just had no idea how to make the change, I’ve tried for at least 2 years before that but I kept failing…no one else I knew was vegan, no one I surrounded myself with, not any of my close friends, neither anyone in the fitness industry.
It seemed so normal to eat the chicken rice and broccoli in order to grow muscle…safe to say it was hard for me to go through that transition not really sure what I’m doing when I’ve started my bodybuilding journey around the same time I’ve turned vegan.
I want to be the person I needed back then when I didn’t know anything about plant-based nutrition and bodybuilding in combination. I want to make it as easy as possible for people to change without having to worry about nutrient deficiency and macro calculations.
What difficulties do you encounter when seeking vegan options or dining out with friends? How do you navigate and address these challenges?
No challenges, we are living in an era where we are spoilt for choice! It’s never been so easy…even when I’m travelling, there’s always options, and if there isn’t one, you’ll still find a way.
Since the early start of my fitness journey I’ve been really focusing on my nutrition intake so I’m already not a person who eats out much anyway, but if I do I usually take my prep meal when I’m catching up with friends who are used to it now.
On Sundays I usually have a high carb meal out , either pizza, burger, pasta, pancakes, anything really, just no animal killed for it! What are some misconceptions about a vegan or vegetarian? How do you explain or educate? Before I turned vegan, just like many many other people I thought I’d have to eat animals to build muscle.
Well I can confirm I was wrong. I have been building every inch of the muscle on my body from plants! I’m checking my bloods every 2 months and never have I been more healthy.
I have competed in bodybuilding shows and placed against people who eat meat. We need protein carbs and fats in our daily nutrition. We need a certain amount of protein to reach our muscle building goals. But we don’t need animal protein.
Once you get your head around this, it seems weird to think that people kill animals and eat them thinking that’s what they need to survive. It’s 2024 and we certainly are going in the right direction.
It’s just sad we can’t speed up the progress but I’m sure all of us vegans out there are trying our hardest to educate people who are willing to hear the truth.
There’s something weird I never really understood. When meat eaters say we make our food look and taste like meat
It literally is the other way around. People use plants to make meat taste good. Oils, seasoning, sauces, dressings, marinates, etc… Yes we eat plants in the form of a sausage but imagine eating eyeball, nails and all other animal waste products that come with a sausage by itself, not using all the flavour that comes from plants would they still eat it? No!!!
Recommend some good places or food? can be home-cooked or eating places. Why are these your favourites? (with photos and captions of the dish names)
My dishes are simple. Carbs: Rice or sweet potato, protein: (tofu, tempeh, seitan, tvp) and healthy fats: algal and flaxseed oil, avocado, nuts It’s important for me to eat clean simple dishes to save time and keep control of my portion sizes.
For my refeed meal I love to make fluffy white chocolate protein pancakes (hit me up for the recipe) and home made penne arrabbiata with fresh basil and rocket from the garden or I eat out… WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR PROTEIN FROM? The question of all questions us vegans hear so frequently that it’s easy to overlook the genuine curiosity behind it sometimes…
However, let me assure you that obtaining the right calories and macros, including protein can be a little challenging regardless of one’s dietary choices. It requires careful planning, good choices and a bit of nutritional know-how to ensure we’re getting the right amount to fuel our bodies..
But the one simple answer to this question is: from plants.
Did you know that the true source of all protein lies within plants? It’s fascinating to think that the animals we consume actually acquire their protein from these very plants.
By embracing a vegan lifestyle, not only do you bypass the unfortunate fate of animals, but you also steer clear of the potential health hazards that accompany animal-based diets, such as elevated cholesterol, cardiovascular ailments, certain cancers and not to forget all the antibiotics and growth hormones given to the animals.
