Initially used to eat meat and dairy, Sarah embraced a meatless lifestyle after discovering a plethora of delightful plant-based foods. Sarah marvels at the misconception that veganism is bland or monotonous, expressing her amazement at the richness and variety of flavors she has encountered.

Sarah emphasizes the importance of making the journey enjoyable and sustainable.

Meatless Movement recently had the opportunity to chat with her.

While she acknowledges the need to address animal suffering, she believes that lasting change comes from a positive and gradual exploration of new flavors and small lifestyle adjustments each day.

Tell us more about yourself, please

I feel good and better than before. I feel this lifestyle is more aligned with my values too.

I’m from Montreal, Qubec, Canada. I am a multi passionate person.

I often say that I will never have enough time in one lifetime to do everything I want to do. My passion for cooking, especially plant-based cooking, developed during the pandemic. I could spend hours and hours in the kitchen without getting tired. Like literally until 11 pm. That’s where the desire came to share my
creations and discoveries with a community!

In 2019, when I watched The Game Changers, I decided to become vegetarian overnight. I gave all the meat and fish I had in the fridge and decided to try this lifestyle. I loved it! And I wanted to see if I could give up dairy so I gradually transitioned to a plant-based diet since 2021 at my pace.

It has been a journey. Sometimes we hear we have to go vegan overnight but it’s not for everyone. I know we need to do our best for the suffering of the animals, but in my opinion if we want to make a change that will last for a lifetime, it has to be a fun journey of discoveries and small changes everyday.

Accessibility for vegan food is the thing I find the most difficult, even if I have the chance to live in a city
where there are options (way more than some parts of the world). I’d say the key is to come prepared… If I am eating out with friends I look at the menu beforehand to see if there are options or if I could ask for some swaps to make it vegan. If I go to a family or a friend gathering, I never come empty handed, I always bring lots of vegan food for myself and everybody to try.

My favorite restaurant ever is Bistro Tendresse in Montreal. The food is so good and it’s always a fun experience.

Do you have any recommendations for someone who is just starting to explore a meatless lifestyle?

I will show them and make them try it! I find it’s the best way to convince them!

At first, people think it will be hard or complicated. That is exactly why I try my best to show recipes that have a wow effect but are usually easy to do!

Be gentle and kind with yourself. Do it at your own pace and have fun. I think it’s the key to maintain these changes for a long term. Discover new vegan places, try new recipes and new products… Always Have fun while doing it!

The thing I love most about veganism is how our taste can change. I used to like meat and dairy foods… But now that I discovered so many great foods that I never thought I would enjoy, there’s no going back! And it amazes me how at first, we are scared that it will be blend or boring, but it’s not!
