Delight in the story of Kellie LaMay, a radiant presence in the bustling heart of Los Angeles, California. Not just an actress, but a fervent advocate for plant-based living and the creative mind behind the acclaimed blog “Feeding.Vegans.” Kellie’s journey is one of transformation, driven by compassion and a deep-seated belief in the power of conscious choices.

From a young age, Kellie’s heart revolted against the notion of consuming living animals. Growing up amidst a backdrop where meat and dairy held sway at every meal, she nurtured a distinct aversion to this norm. As life carried her into the realm of college, Kellie took the first step toward her ethical path by embracing vegetarianism. But this was only the beginning.

At the tender age of 21, Kellie made a resolute leap into the world of plant-based eating, guided by a profound conviction that compassion should extend beyond humans to the creatures we share the planet with. Now, at the vibrant age of 28, Kellie’s commitment remains unshaken – her diet wholly plant-based and gluten-free.

Meatless Movement had the wonderful opportunity to engage in a conversation with her recently.

Kellie’s journey is a testament to the power of personal growth and the resilience of our convictions. As an actress, she breathes life into characters on screen, and as a vegan gluten-free food blogger, she transforms culinary experiences into vibrant works of art.

Join Kellie as she shares her heartwarming story, mouthwatering recipes, and unwavering dedication to a lifestyle that harmonizes nourishment with ethics. The journey she undertakes is not just about what we eat, but a celebration of the choices we make to honor the planet, our fellow creatures, and our own well-being.

Since being a kid, I always hated the idea of eating a living animal. I grew up in an environment where meat & dairy was served every meal. When I got to college, I made the transition to being vegetarian, then finally made the leap to a completely plant based diet at 21. Now recently turned 28, I’m still completely plant based and gluten free. I can never imagine eating meat again.

I don’t think people realize how big of a transition it is going to a completely plant based diet. When I first went vegan, I experienced bloating and some other physical symptoms from my body being in complete shock. Before, I ate so much meat and dairy that I wasn’t consuming enough vitamins and fiber. After my body adjusted I saw inflammation in my body go down, my skin cleared up, I dropped weight & had increased energy. A plant based diet can change your life.

In LA, it’s incredibly easy being plant-based as there are many options at restaurants and grocery stores. However, when I travel with friends or go home to Virginia, it can be a lot more difficult. With friends, I usually take initiative to find a restaurant for us to eat at and will call places to see if they can prepare something for me ahead of time. If I’m about to walk into a situation where I cannot control what is being served to me, I will eat before hand or pack food. I always keep kind bars at the ready in my handbag and fruit.

What are your thoughts and feelings regarding embracing a vegan or vegetarian lifestyle?

I absolutely love it. Going vegan is not only great for your health, but it’s great for the environment and you’re saving lives.

I always tell people to try to incorporate a couple of 100% plant-based days in their lifestyle and see how they feel. Even going from zero plant-based days a week to 2, you will see a difference.

Debunking Misconceptions About Vegans and Vegetarians:

That we do not get enough vitamins! I actually had several vitamin deficiencies before I went plant-based. Since going vegan, I get blood panels every year and they always look perfect.

Another misconception is that you’ll miss out on your favorite home cooked recipes! All of the recipes I make are inspired by my southern mama who would make the most incredible dishes, but unfortunately were not vegan. My recipes are re creating a lot of those comforting meals, but 100% cruelty free. Vegan AND Gluten Free!
