Michelle is a San Diego native who has journeyed all over the United States with her husband, David, due to his work. For the past few years, they have been residing on the island of Oahu in Hawaii, where they welcomed their youngest son, Matthew. The couple made the decision to raise their son on a vegan diet, and in late 2016, they became vegans themselves. Michelle, who was primarily vegetarian growing up, found that being vegan has been a life-changing experience that has opened her eyes to new ways of thinking about food and consumption.

Michelle is passionate about sharing the benefits of the vegan lifestyle with others and has found that raising vegan children has had a profound impact on their outlook on life. She hopes to inspire others to embrace a vegan lifestyle and is excited to share her experience with those who are interested in making the transition. With her inspiring story and enthusiasm for veganism, Michelle is a true inspiration to others seeking to live a healthier and more sustainable life.

Meatless Movement recently had the opportunity to chat with her.

For our family one of the most important things is to cause no harm, be cruelty free

The whole family

When we got pregnant with our youngest son Matthew, we knew we didnt want to feed him anything that came from an animal. but we started thinking how could we raise him that way if we werent like that too so we became vegan in late 2016. I was never really a meat eater. I was mostly vegetarian growing up.

Myself my husband and Matthew ( Matthew had been vegan since birth)

It has really opened our eyes, only regret is not going vegan sooner.

Rasing vegan children has made them so much more intuitive and they have an outlook that others may not have. Its definitely eye opening

I love that my family went vegan and I hope to inspire others to go vegan too!

Can you suggest some good food options or places to eat

It’s sad to see in 2023 how NOT alot of people understand veganism, are you a true vegan? do you have cheat days would you mind if we put milk in it ? We usually just eat at home.

We love Little Vessel donut co on oahu in the Kaimuki neighborhood . anything they make is amazing and I dont even like donuts!

Also Tane vegan sushi on oahu is great their wedge roll is to die for!

What advice would you give to someone who is starting to eliminate meat from their diet?

Michelle (Mish) Kohlbacher Ⓥ

We arent going to preach and were not going to try and make you go vegan my slogan is you do you but the future is definitely vegan

I cook for alot of my friends, but I would just say tell me a food you love. Ill make it vegan and you wont even notice a difference.

Take it one day at a time, it can be overwhelming but dont be afraid to ask for help. trying is so much better than not trying at all.
