Vicki is a 36-year-old resident of England, UK who has a passion for exploring new places and traveling. Although she has lived in England her entire life, she has a curious and adventurous spirit that drives her to see different parts of the world.

In 2018, Victoria made a significant change in her lifestyle and became a vegan. Initially, she was overwhelmed by the idea of switching to a vegan lifestyle, but she was introduced to a 2-week vegan trial that changed her perception completely.

As she learned more about veganism, Victoria became increasingly aware of the cruel and inhumane treatment of animals, and she knew that she could no longer continue consuming animal products. Victoria’s story is a testament to the transformative power of education and awareness, and how it can inspire us to make significant changes in our lives.

Meatless Movement recently had a chat with her.

Hi, my names Vicki, I am 36 years old and I live in England UK. I have lived here my whole life but love to travel and see different places and countries.

I hope to visit as many countries as I can. I am a mum to 3 children, they are 18, 13 and 8 months old. I am currently not working but before my youngest child arrived I was working as a deputy nursery manager, deputy safeguarding lead and SEN teacher.

Why I’m vegan..

I became vegan in 2018 and the main reason was I believed it would make me healthier. I looked into becoming vegan and at first was so overwhelmed and I thought “I can’t do this” a few weeks later I came across a 2 week vegan trial.

I did the trial and after that I was hooked. I began learning more about veganism and the more I learned the more I knew it was for me. I became so aware of the horrific and cruel ways that animals are treated for human benefit and I never looked back.

It’s odd to think that you don’t think about the poor animals and what is actually happening to them, but once I knew I couldn’t continue eating animal products.

How I feel about being vegan

You are kind and receive kindness

Victoria Cattini

I feel incredibly proud to be vegan. I understand that it’s not for everyone and i do not judge others. But I feel so happy that I have chosen this path and I know I will always continue on it. I love hearing about other people’s journey with trying vegan/vegetarian diets and giving them advice.

Favourite foods

All I’m wanting to eat lately

Victoria Cattini

I love tofu and love experimenting with it. There are so many different things you can use it for. I mainly use it in my Buddha bowls which is one of my favourite things to eat. Another family favourite is Italian food. We eat lots of pasta here.

Not all of my family are vegan/vegetarian but they eat lots of meat- and dairy- free meals.

Challenges Faced….Being Vegan

But she keeps going, keeps smiling and always sees the positive in every situation 🤍

It can sometimes can be difficult when eating out as some restaurants still don’t have a lot of vegan/vegetarian options. I always check menus of the places I’ll be visiting beforehand to see what is available for me.

Most restaurants are quite accommodating as well and will happily alter a meal if you ask. It’s annoying when there is only 1 or 2 vegan options but once you know restaurants that have more options you can avoid the ones that don’t have much.

I’m sure over time most restaurants will have lots of meals on their menu for vegan/vegetarians to choose from.

Misconceptions…About Veganism

There are lots of misconceptions of a vegan/vegetarian diet. Many people believe that you won’t be getting the right nutritional needs or that you your children won’t be healthy children. It is possible for anyone to not be getting the correct nutrition from their diet and this includes people that eat animal products.

Victoria Cattini

As a vegan parent I make sure that my children are receiving everything they need and so they are probably getting much better nutrition then non vegan children. Educating yourself is key in making sure you are giving yourself and your family everything you need and this is correct regardless of your food choices.

To anyone thinking of deciding to go meat free or just to eat less meat, I would tell them to look up lots of different recipes to try so that they don’t get disheartened or struggle to think of new ideas. I have an Instagram page where I regularly share recipes and I also find lots of different recipes myself on there for inspiration. I think a lot of people struggle to think of meal ideas and so they give up but I would recommend sticking to it and getting adventurous in the kitchen as it’s great fun and you will learn so much.
