Meet Tiffany, an emergency room nurse and animal rights activist who uses her platform at work to spread awareness about the importance of animal rescue and adoption. One of her tactics is wearing animal-themed tees with her scrubs, which always sparks a conversation.

Tiffany believes that education is key in protecting these animals. Her passion and dedication to animal advocacy have not gone unnoticed, as she was recently awarded the Compassionate Advocate award from PETA. Tiffany is grateful for the recognition, but more importantly, she knows that her work is making a difference for the animals she fights to protect.

Meatless Movement recently had the opportunity to chat with her.

….. so we can see real change for animals in Philadelphia

My name is Tiffany. I am from Philadelphia and work as an ER nurse. I became vegan overnight in 2017 after coming across the documentary “Earthlings”, which is a film about cruelty inflicted on animals used for food, clothing, experimentation and entertainment.

But the bottom line is: veganism is not a diet, it’s an ethical stance against oppression

Tiffany📍PHL

Veganism is not about health for me, although my health drastically improved after going vegan. Veganism is a moral and ethical stance against oppression of human and non-human animals. Being vegan means causing the least amount of harm possible to the animals and to our planet. Animal ag is wreaking havoc on the planet and if there isn’t a massive shift, we are at risk of causing irreversible damage that will eventually lead to the 6th mass extinction.

Shortly after becoming vegan, I became an activist. Fighting for animals is the least I can do to make an impact. I now run a nonprofit in called Revolution Philadlephia, which is a grassroots movement to make changes for animals in Philadelphia on a legislative level.

There is no excuse for contributing to any industry that tortures living, breathing beings

Encouraging people to go vegan and try vegan dishes can be effective. Leading by example and living a cruelty free life also has an impact on how others view veganism. The unfortunate side to that is: creating one vegan at a time and consumerism will not have the intended effect to help animals and the planet. We need local and federal legislation to change the food system from within.

As far as accessibility to veganism, Philly is very fortunate to have a ton of popular vegan-only restaurants that attract vegans and non-vegans alike. Making veganism more accessible to all communities should be a priority in this movement.

Veganism is not about food or health- that’s just a small piece of it. Veganism is justice. Veganism is liberation from oppressive systems. Veganism is love for yourself, for the animals, and for the planet.
