Seaweeds are highly nutritious, tastes really good too. Other than the many kind of seaweed snacks that are available in the market, there are also plenty of choices that can be used in cooking. One of my favourites is Wakame, umami with natural sweetness and for its leathery texture.

I like to use fresh wakame that are sold frozen and preserved with salt for Wakame Salad as it is thicker in texture with a nice crunch, tastes great with little seasonings.

Here is my quick and simple recipe using common sauces and ingredients found in the pantry. Great as side dish.

Ingredients

  • 75g Frozen Fresh Wakame (sliced)/ Dried Wakame (rehydrated)
  • 1 Chilli Padi (sliced)
  • 1 tsp Sesame seeds (roasted)
  • 1 tbsp Light Soy Sauce
  • 1 tsp Vegetarian Oyster Sauce
  • 1 -2 tsp tbsp Sesame Oil (adjust to taste)
  • 2 tbsp Filtered Water

Instructions

  1. To remove salt from Wakame, rinse and squeeze out the water 2 – 3 times. Set it aside..
  1. Combine all the Sauces, Chilli Padi and Water together. Mix well to use as Salad Dressing.
  2. Drizzle and toss the Wakame with Salad Dressing.
  3. Sprinkle it with Sesame Seeds.
  4. Cover and put it in the fridge for at least an hour before eating.
